Rockets sign elite defensive guard with 3.5 steals per 36 minutes

The Rockets might be the favorites to win the title after this move.

The Rockets have had an outstanding offseason.

The big move was trading for Kevin Durant, but even smaller moves such as bringing back Clint Capela could pay off in a big way.

Additionally, on Monday, they signed another free agent on a very cheap deal, yet this player could be a needle mover next season.

Who did the Rockets sign?

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the Rockets signed Josh Okogie to a one-year contract.

Okogie was traded from the Suns to the Hornets in January and was waived by Charlotte a week ago.

Okogie is the former 20th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, and has put together a solid career as a role player so far.

He played 40 games between the Hornets and Suns last season, and notably had a per-36 average of 3.5 steals as a member of the Hornets last season.

The Rockets are getting a quality '3 & D' player for just $3.1 million.

Whether or not he comes off the bench or plays a bigger role, Okogie can be a huge help to this team, and they may have gotten a steal getting him for so little this offseason.
