It has been a good run.
Fans Convinced Travis Kelce Is Retiring After This Season Because of What He Said on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The NFL season is officially less than a month away, which means preparations by teams across the league are now in full swing.
This has been the case for Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, who have been working hard in the offseason to ensure that they are able to come back with a bang in 2025.
Travis Kelce Sent Heartfelt Message to Chiefs
Kelce, who will turn 36 this season, spoke to the media on Wednesday during training camp. The 10-time Pro Bowler took the opportunity to send an endearing message as he professed his love and affection for the Chiefs.
“I’ve been lucky to be here for my 13th year now,” he said. “I just absolutely love this organization. I love the team. I love all the coaches. I know just about every defensive coach as well as I know the offensive coaches, and vice versa with the players and the staff and the equipment room.
“I have fun coming into work every single day.”
Kelce went on to touch on the leadership role he’s taken for the team. According to the four-time First-team All-Pro tight end, it’s been an honor for him to share his depth of knowledge with his teammates.
“What better way to get better than to make sure that we lean on each other?” he continued. “And if I can give somebody a word that makes them better on that specific route or doing that specific drill, man, I’m here for it.”
Fans React to Kelce’s Statement
On Wednesday, the Chiefs' social media accounts posted the video with a heartfelt reaction to Kelce’s message. “We’re lucky to have you, Travis,” the team captioned the post.
The fans were quickly drawn to Kelce’s statement as they expressed how much they appreciate the three-time Super Bowl champion TE for everything he’s done for the team through the years.
More than a few supporters, however, could not help but think about Kelce’s looming retirement.
“Oh shoot this really is his last year,” a comment on Instagram read.
“His last year is going to be EPIC. 🔥🔥🔥” declared a fan.
“😢😢 last rodeo,” said another.
“Happy last season Trav ❤️,” wished a supporter.
“He seems choked up like maybe this will be his last year playing. I can see him coaching somewhere if not there,” a reaction on X read.
"Last season?" another asked.
Kelce Grappled With Retirement During the Offseason
It is worth noting that Kelce actually came close to retirement this past offseason. The former Cincinnati Bearcats star took some time to make his decision after the Chiefs’ heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Kelce thought long and hard about whether he wanted to return, which ultimately led to his decision to give it another go. However, he did not commit to playing beyond this coming season, which only means that this could, indeed, be Kelce’s last dance.
