An MLB analyst urges the New York Yankees to make a bold move to acquire a star pitcher to solidify the rotation ahead of the playoff push.
The New York Yankees are holding onto a Wild Card spot and have already been active, adding two impact players.
The Yankees traded for Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario to add some much-needed infield depth and solve the third base position. Yet, ahead of the July 31 Major League Baseball trade deadline, New York has been linked to pitching help.
MLB analyst Jorge Castillo of ESPN urges the Yankees to acquire Mitch Keller from the Pittsburgh Pirates to solidify the rotation.
"The Yankees want a starting pitcher, and Keller, while not the best starter seemingly available, would be a solid addition to a depleted rotation,” Castillo wrote. “The veteran right-hander is so far having the best season of his career, with a 3.69 ERA over 127 innings. Furthermore, he is under contract for another three seasons for a sensible $55.7 million, and the Yankees strongly prefer trading for non-rental players. Last year, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Mark Leiter Jr. fell into that bucket. And last week, they acquired Ryan McMahon, who is under contract through 2027.”

Keller has three more years of club control as he’s in the second year of his five-year, $77 million deal. Keller would be a massive addition to the Yankees’ rotation, as New York has had some injuries to the rotation, so New York should look to add another arm to join Max Fried and Carlos Rodon in a potential playoff rotation.
Keller is 4-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 22 starts this season.
The Yankees are 57-49 and 5.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for the top spot in the AL East.
