Legendary Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson believes the team’s 2025 season could hinge on a critical season-long factor.

Speaking with DallasCowboys.com staff writer Nick Eatman, Johnson pointed to depth concerns as a major reason why the Cowboys’ margin for error will be razor-thin throughout next season.

The former two-time Super Bowl champion coach believes the Cowboys' success in 2025 will be defined by their ability to stay healthy.

“They’re top-heavy salary-wise,” Johnson said. “And so their 53-man roster may not be quite as talented at the bottom as some of these other teams. The other thing is, they have a very difficult stretch there toward the end of the season.”

“So if they’re not at full strength when they’re playing those top teams – the second half of at the end of the season, it’s going to be a problem,” Johnson said. "So staying healthy is the No. 1 key.”

Johnson's comments echo what plagued Dallas during its frustrating 2024 campaign. Last season, core players such as Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and CeeDee Lamb all missed time due to injuries.

The lack of depth behind them proved costly, with Dallas combining for 39 different injuries lasting a grand total of 190 lost games among all injured players, according to RotoWire.

The Cowboys upgraded this offseason with key additions, including wide receiver George Pickens and running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, who will join fellow tailback and rookie Jaydon Blue.

That said, Dallas enters training camp with many star players on the shelf and expected to miss at least a chunk of the 2025 season, including cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, among others.
