Gould has impressed in preseason.
Expectations are high for Anthony Gould in 2025 originally appeared on The Sporting News
Throughout training camp and preseason, Colts wide receiver Anthony Gould has been the primary kick returner on special teams.
Special teams coordinator Brian Mason has been very pleased with Gould’s performances thus far.
“As a whole, I thought he’s had a really clean training camp,” he said about the second-year specialist from Oregon State. “We expect some really good things from him.”
With high expectations come a high standard. The talent is there for Gould to be a valuable asset, but Mason has held him accountable.
Mason mentioned a couple mistakes Gould made in preseason, such as slipping and falling on a punt return, causing him to muff the catch or letting a punt hit the ground that the coaches believe he should’ve caught.
“We can certainly get that cleaned up.”
As a rookie, Gould did get some opportunities to return kicks. He averaged 29.4 yards per kick return in 2024 and 9.5 yards per punt return with a long punt return of 40 yards.
Mason expects both Gould and Ashton Dulin to be the Colts primary returners when Indianapolis opens their season against the Dolphins on Sept. 7.
