A brutal report card for the Bills following their preseason blowout loss to the Bears.
It might just be the preseason.
The Buffalo Bills might've decided to sit nearly all of their starting players (they did).
But a 38-0 loss to the Chicago Bears?
That's going to be poorly reflected in any postgame grades.
With that, here is Bills Wire's report card following the team's loss to the Bears in Week 2 of the preseason:
Pass offense: D
Mike White got his chance to start as he battles Mitchell Trubisky to be Josh Allen's backup. It's not all on him as the Bills offense was facing some starters from the Bears defense... but the first-team offense against the Bears looked awful.
The offensive line was brutal throughout the game for both White and Trubisky. It's hard for most NFL teams to find solid backups in those those roles.
White was 4-for-11 passing for 54 yards. Trubisky was 7-for-13 but still only mustered 56 yards. Tyrell Shavers was their best receiver but still only had two catches for 29 yards. White missed him on one deep ball.
Run offense: C+
Frank Gore Jr. did put up some productive plays. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry on eight rushes for 51 total yards. He was the long bright spot, but Gore eventually fumbled.
Pass defense: D
Whether it was starter Caleb Williams or backup Tyson Bagent, the Bills' secondary was picked apart. Now Buffalo's biggest concern is clearly the safety position. Both Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin
Run defense: D
The tackling was terrible for the Bills defense throughout this game. That helped the Bears have two rushers put up more than 70 yards on the ground which gathering 171 as a team. Brutal.
Special teams: B
Kicker Caden Davis missed his only attempt but it was from over 50 yards. Punter Brad Robbins continues to be impressive, though. He averaged 48.8 yards on two kicks and unless he completely loses it in a week's time, Robbins will be Buffalo's kicker in 2025.
Coaching: F
It's hard to give a team's coach any other grade after such an outing. Not only is a 38-0 defeat sloppy and ugly... this outcome is a bit of a knock on McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane's roster building.
