On Monday, the Cleveland Browns officially signed rookie wide receiver Isaiah Bond to a three-year, $3.018 million fully guaranteed contract. Bond went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft after being accused of sexual assault in April.
Bond denied the allegations, referring to them as “patently false.” Last week, a grand jury no-billed the case. On Monday, Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry released a statement on the team’s decision to sign Bond.
“We’ve spent much of the last calendar year getting to know Isaiah as a player and professional and much of the last four months gaining a full understanding of his legal situation,” Berry wrote. “On the legal side, we have done extensive research that includes but is not limited to hearing from both sides of the case and receiving the results of an independently administered polygraph test.
“Before the allegations, we also spent a great deal of time with Isaiah during the draft process on campus, at the Combine and at our facilities. His time at Alabama with Tommy Rees also weighed heavily on our assessment of his ability to operate successfully in a professional environment if brought into our organization.
“It is these touchpoints and more that gave us the necessary insights to make this decision. With his legal matter resolved through a no bill by a grand jury, Isaiah is focused on learning from this experience while moving forward with his life and career.”
Isaiah Bond spent two seasons at Alabama and last year at Texas. In the 2023 campaign with the Crimson Tide, Bond crossed paths with Tommy Rees, who was serving as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
After the season, Rees was hired as the Browns’ pass game specialist and tight ends coach, while Bond transferred to Texas. The Browns promoted Rees to offensive coordinator this offseason and, evidently, the 33-year-old coach played a large role in the team signing Bond.
After all, in Bond’s lone season under Rees’ tutelage, he tallied a career-best 48 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns. Now, Bond will look to find similar success at the next level.
“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Cleveland Browns for believing in me and allowing me the opportunity to continue my career in the NFL,” Bond said in a statement. “Football has been my passion since I was six years old, and playing at this level is a blessing I will never take for granted. I understand that playing in the NFL is a privilege, and I’m thankful every day to live my childhood dream.”
