The time is coming.
Giants' Jaxson Dart starting chances get big update behind QB Russell Wilson originally appeared on The Sporting News
Jaxson Dart's time is coming.
And for the New York Giants, it might actually arrive ahead of schedule.
The Giants set up their QB room this offseason to give Dart time to learn. They signed two veterans, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Then they traded back into the first round to take the quarterback Dart out of Ole Miss with the No. 25 overall pick.
With Wilson and Winston, the Giants have no reason to rush Dart.

But with the way Dart has looked so far this preseason, it may not turn out to be rushed at all. He may just be ready.
"Cue the Jaxson Dart hype," writes ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "The first-round pick was again impressive in preseason action, especially while leading consecutive touchdown drives to begin the second half. He completed 5 of 6 passes for 62 yards on the first drive, which was capped by a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Greg Dulcich. Dart then capped the next drive with a 1-yard TD run. The rookie finished 14-of-16 for 137 yards with a TD passing and another rushing. This came on the heels of an impressive debut against the Bills. Even though Russell Wilson led a touchdown drive to start the game, Dart is showing he might be ready to start sooner rather than later."
Dart's arm talent has never been in question. He had some of the best deep-ball accuracy in the country while at Ole Miss.

To perform the way he did in the brutal SEC speaks volumes about his ability to handle tough competition.
Now, he's in a spot where he can both learn from the veterans around him on the depth chart while showing on the field that he might be ready for a larger role in the near term.
The Giants likely will ride with Wilson in the early going. But with the way Dart has looked, his name will be on fans' minds as soon as Russ struggles a little bit.
