Kentucky appears to be all-in on Incarnate Word transfer Zach Calzada to be the program’s starting quarterback in 2025. The seventh-year senior brings a load of experience to the table and has gotten most of the snaps with the first unit throughout spring practice and in fall camp. But QB2 continues to make a strong impression.
Cutter Boley is now in year two with the Kentucky football program and the redshirt freshman continues to have a strong camp. After playing well in both open practices at the beginning of camp, Boley has made some plays in the scrimmages at Kroger Field. That continued on Saturday.
“I felt like they played good,” Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said when asked about the quarterbacks. “I thought Cutter was very efficient early in particular. He had some really nice drives and put some things together. Got the ball in the endzone. So that was really good to see.”
There is not a real QB competition ongoing right now. Kentucky is moving forward with Calzada as the starting quarterback but Cutter Boley remains a critical part of this program’s future. The Lexington (Ky.) Christian Academy product was huge recruiting win for the Wildcats and the currently working plan is for him to take over as the starting quarterback in 2026. Throughout the preseason, Boley has continued to show development and seems to be hitting important checkpoints.
The in-state product will give Kentucky a high-quality backup and an option to utilize if Calzada gets hurt or if the offense bogs down and needs a spark.
