Udonis Haslem suggests the Warriors trade for Josh Giddey and get rid of Jonathan Kuminga.
Heat legend has a solution for Jonathan Kuminga situation in Golden State originally appeared on The Sporting News
Jonathan Kuminga doesn't want to return to the veteran-crowded Golden State Warriors, and the franchise doesn't want to give him away on a silver platter. While the Warriors are ready to give him a short-term extension, Kuminga wants a long-term and lucrative deal. This has resulted in a contract standoff and the franchise looking for suitors where they could trade him away.
Amid the impasse, Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem has come up with a win-win solution for both parties. Haslem thinks Bulls' Josh Giddey could be what the Warriors would like for Kuminga.
"I'm looking around. I'm looking at the Chicago Bulls and I'm looking at the Golden State Warriors and I'm saying Josh Giddey looked like a guy that could fit great over in Golden State and Jonathan Kuminga looks like a guy that possibly could fit good in Chicago," Haslem said.
There's an interesting backstory involving the two star hoopers from the 2021 NBA draft. The Warriors had their eyes on Giddey at the draft, but the OKC Thunder came in and drafted him at No. 6, leaving Golden State to pivot to Kuminga at No. 7.
"I remember reading an article just a little while ago where Josh Giddey's father said that there was interest from Golden State in Kuminga, but OKC took him at six, and they said that Golden State would take him at seven," Haslem added. "So I'm just saying, this might be a solution. I'm no GM. This might be above my pay grade, guys. But this might be a solution to some people's problems."
However, SI's Austin Veazey stated that the move can't happen without the Warriors wanting to part ways with either Moses Moody or Buddy Hield in addition to Kuminga for a potential sign-and-trade to work. Even Chicago may not want to trade Ayo Dosunmu. Thus, the likelihood of such a scenario is slim.
