Thiago Pitarch and Roberto Martin were the two youngsters who premiered for the first team on the night. Both stars shone and made a case to have more prominence in the first team.

Young debutants speak

Pitarch first faced the media after the game and commented on his feelings after making his debut for the first team.

“It’s an honour to make your debut and play in this jersey. It’s every kid’s dream come true, to play for the best club in the world. There’s not much more I can say about it,” he said.

On the instructions he recieved from Alonso before stepping onto the field for the first time as a senior team player, Thiago said.

“The coach told us to go out there and enjoy it, and play how we know. It’s amazing to speak to Xabi Alonso, who was such a top player as well.”

“We used to watch him on TV, and having him here with us now is an honour,” he added.

Finally, he was asked to describe his profile and the qualities he brings to the field.

“I’m an intense player, gritty and I have a good attitude, I cover a lot of ground on the pitch, aside from my technical qualities.”

Roberto Martin takes the stage

Roberto Martin, who came on for Arda Guler in the second half, also spoke to the media after making his debut and the youngster did not hold back in expressing his excitement.

“I really can’t put it into words. It’s an honour to be here and to be fulfilling a dream I’ve had ever since I was a kid.”

“It was crazy when they told me I’d be in the first-team squad. There is no better gift than making your debut for the best club in the world,” he added.

Speaking on how it felt to rub shoulders with the best players in the world, the youngster struggled to put into words his experience.

“What can I say? I’ve been playing with the best in the world. I was out on the pitch, and I couldn’t believe what was happening. It was madness, I’m so happy.”

Finally, he also gave a rough idea of his profile and qualities on the field.

“I always try and give it everything, I chase every ball like it was the last, I try and play lots of long balls, turn on the ball and create space.”
