Fans were baffled.
WNBA Announces Confusing News After Fever-Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The rivalry showdown between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky did not exactly deliver as promised. This was mainly because of the fact that neither Caitlin Clark nor Angel Reese took the floor as both stars nursed respective injuries and were unable to take the court on Saturday night.
It was Kelsey Mitchell who stole the show in this one, leading the Fever to a dominant 92-70 home victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The three-time All-Star went off for a game-high 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting, to go along with three rebounds, a season-high eight assists and four triples in 33 minutes of action.
Mitchell also marked an incredible milestone with her 26-point explosion against the Sky. The 5-foot-8 guard now leads the entire WNBA in total points, surpassing current MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier (612) of the Minnesota Lynx.
The fans, however, were left confused by the WNBA’s announcement post. According to the league, Mitchell is now up to 710 points this season. The official stats website of the WNBA tells a different story, though, as it indicates that the Fever star is currently at 637 points.
Tonight in the @IndianaFever win over the Chicago Sky (92-70), Kelsey Mitchell became the WNBA’s leading scorer this season with 710 points!

"These numbers don’t seem correct. Please check again. I see 611 on espn. 🙁🤔" a comment on X read.
"She did take the lead, but this numbers are so far off. I'm so confused how the WNBA got the numbers this wrong on their own league," another said.
"why are we lying on God’s internet??" a user asked.
"Because it’s the official WNBA page and now they have a good excuse to delete the tweet. 😬🤣👌" a reaction read.
"I mean if you're counting preseason, regular season, commissioner's cup final, and all-star game this stat is correct. If you just pull up regular season stats it's 637. I mean she's still in the lead but all of these numbers are wrong," pointed out another.
"YOU INCLUDED PRESEASON, ALL-STAR, AND COMMISSIONERS CUP… 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣 This is sooooooooooo embarrassing," a fan posted.
As indicated by a couple of the reactions above, the WNBA's post appears to have included the points Mitchell scored during the preseason, the All-Star Game and the Commissioner's Cup final, which are all not considered part of the regular season.
Mitchell, however, still leads the pack if only the regular season games are included in the tally.
Whatever the case might be, the fact of the matter is that fans were left with more questions than answers after the WNBA's confusing announcement.
