It has been some U G L Y baseball for the teams in the Big Apple lately. Both the New York Mets and New York Yankees lost, AGAIN, on Sunday.

The Yankees suffered a 7-1 loss to the Houston Astros to lose the three-game series. The Bronx Bombers are now 2-7 during August. Dating back to July 1, the Yankees are 14-20. They have now fallen to six games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East. With the Cleveland loss, the Yankees remain 1/2 game ahead of the Guardians for the final wildcard spot.

Meanwhile, in Queens, things are no better for the New York Mets. The Mets are 1-8 during August and have dropped 11 out of their last 12 games. That dates back to a loss on July 28 against the Padres. The Mets fortunately still hold the final wildcard in the National League, but that lead is dwindling. Cincinnati, with a 14-8 win over the Padres, moved to 2.5 games back. In the East, the Mets are 4.5 games back of the Phillies.

The Mets will get to head back to Citi Field for six straight games this week. The Braves come to town Tuesday, and then the Mariners are in town over the weekend. Following that, they will invade Washington and Atlanta for three games each.

The Yankees are also at home this week for three games. They will host the Twins Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Following a day off on Thursday, the Yankees are in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals, before two games in Tampa against the Rays.

Aaron Boone feels the pressure and received his fifth ejection of the season on Sunday. Carlos Mendoza certainly has not felt this much pressure. The New York fans are certainly losing their patience with both teams. It will be an interesting final six weeks in the Big Apple.
