This veteran pitcher had a rough going against Cleveland Friday night, to say the least.
Guardians make seven-year veteran do something he's never done before originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Cleveland Guardians have been absolutely brilliant since returning from the All-Star break, currently riding a four-game winning streak and quickly closing in on the Detroit Tigers, who have been much less fortunate since returning from the break.
That brilliance continued Friday night in their 9-5 victory against the Chicago White Sox, where they brought a screeching halt to former Guardians pitcher Aaron Civale's string of strong starts.
Civale barely lasted three innings against his old squad, with the team putting up a five-spot in just the first inning, and Civale's final line read 3.1 innings, two walks, six strikeouts, eight hits, and nine earned runs, which marked a career-high for the seven-year MLB veteran.
Civale pitched for the Guardians from 2019 until he was traded at the 2023 trade deadline to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Civale and Shane Bieber packed quite the 1-2 punch for Cleveland in the 2021 season, Civale finishing with a 12-5 record, a 3.84 ERA, and 99 strikeouts in 124.1 innings pitched.
The win brought Cleveland's record to 60-55 on the year, six games now behind Detroit, as the White Sox suffer their fifth consecutive defeat and are still at the bottom of the AL Central standings with a 42-74 record.
