This is such a cool moment.
Yankees legend Mariano Rivera rips a single off fellow New York great at Old Timers' Day originally appeared on The Sporting News
Normally, he's a closer.
But on Saturday, Mariano Rivera showed off his ability to deliver early in the game.
The New York Yankees legend was part of the Old Timers' Day festivities at Yankee Stadium.
And he was up there at the plate, matched up with southpaw Andy Pettitte.
Rivera got the best of the matchup of former pitchers. On a pitch over the heart of the plate, Rivera ripped a single through the left side of the infield.

That's awesome. Two legends in pinstripes, both pitchers, one getting the better of another in a never-before-seen matchup.
Rivera, the Hall of Famer, is now 55 years old.Â

He did get four plate appearances in his MLB career.
In those four plate appearances, Rivera had one RBI, one walk and one strikeout. He never had a hit.
Now he's got one, sort of, and what a cool moment to do it in.
Rivera didn't need anything to add to his legend. But this adds just a fun little footnote to one of the best careers in Yankees history.
