There are some things Cameron Brink could live without.

The Los Angeles Sparks took no risks in bringing back star forward Cameron Brink, who they selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft behind Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.
Brink’s rookie campaign came to an abrupt halt last season due to a season-ending ACL injury, and it wasn’t until 13 months later that the Sparks gave her the green light to return to the court.
Cameron Brink’s Long-Awaited Return
Brink’s rookie year was cut short after just 15 games when she suffered a knee injury on June 18, 2024, in a game against the Connecticut Sun. It was later diagnosed as an ACL tear, which required the former Stanford star to undergo surgery.
Brink’s rehab process was long and hard. Initial reports indicated that she was set to return some time in June, which was pushed back several weeks. After some back-and-forth, the 6-foot-4 forward finally made her comeback on July 29 against the Las Vegas Aces.
The Sparks have been easing their star back into the mix as she works on her conditioning. She’s played just 26 minutes in her first two games, averaging 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest.
Brink Speaks Out on Media Scrutiny
Brink dropped the latest episode of her podcast, “Straight to Cam,” on Monday, and she took the opportunity to talk about how delighted she is to be back.
At the same time, however, the Sparks star also opened up about the downside of her return.
"Even doing activation on the baseline before you do your player development or get shots up before the game,” Brink said, “there's just reporters, people with cameras in your face everywhere. So it's just—I didn't miss that aspect of it very much.”
Such is the price of fame, and Brink is without a doubt one of the most prominent young stars in the WNBA today. The intensity of the media coverage comes with the territory for someone as popular as Brink. Still, she’s indicated here that one of the silver linings of her lengthy injury spell was the break from the craziness of the media.
Brink is officially back, and so are the reporters hounding her every move. As she said, that’s one part of the game that she can certainly live without.
