Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Trey Lance couldn't have scripted things to go better than they did on Thursday.
If you have been waiting years for a positive Trey Lance update in the NFL, you got one on Thursday night.
In the preseason opener, the annual Hall of Fame Game, Lance was given the start for the Los Angeles Chargers against the Detroit Lions. He made the most of it.
In about two and a half quarters of work, Lance completed 13-of-20 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. But it wasn't just his statistics that looked nice. Lance was operating the offense well, showing poise in the pocket and confidence in his throws. This was discussed throughout the NBC broadcast.

Though it was just the first preseason game and the Lions weren't throwing any defensive starters at him, Lance had the game that he needed to have. He looks comfortable in his role with the team and happy to be a part of it. The former No. 3 overall pick has had a rough start to his NFL career, but he may finally be on a team that can unlock the potential so many saw in him coming out of college.

Jim Harbaugh has the ability. A former quarterback himself, Harbaugh knows what it takes to succeed at the professional level, and he appears to be steering Lance in the right direction.
Trey Lance was drafted by a coach that didnt want him .. then traded to a coach that didnt want him ... its good to be at a place where you wanted and remember he's younger than some of the QB's in this years draft .... im pulling for him

Lance is likely now firmly in the battle for the backup quarterback spot with Taylor Heinicke. At the very least, he will be pegged as the team's No. 3 or emergency quarterback, and he has put out some good film for other teams to review. But he appears to have found a good home in L.A., and if he can play this way throughout the preseason, his NFL career will be back on track, rescued from wherever it was headed.
