The Las Vegas Raiders made several changes to their roster this offseason. New general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll are currently in the midst of rebuilding after the team won just four games during the 2024 NFL season.
While the team let most of their starting defenders from last season walk in free agency without a contract, they also waived starting cornerback Jack Jones before the draft. Jones was claimed on waivers by Las Vegas during the 2023 season under coach Antonio Pierce.
After not being on an NFL roster for several months, the Miami Dolphins swooped in and signed Jones on Saturday morning.
Jones played in 24 games for the Raiders between 2023 and 2024. Prior to his arrival in Las Vegas, he played 18 games for the New England Patriots, where he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by head coach Bill Belichick.
He had three pick-sixes during his tenure with the Silver and Black, two of which came off passes from Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow. Jones also recorded a highlight-reel defensive touchdown on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Miami signed Jones just after losing veteran cornerback Artie Burns for the year with a knee injury. The secondary also recently lost All-Pro Jalen Ramsey, so the Dolphins signed cornerback Mike Hilton on Saturday, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Based on Miami's current depth chart, Jones should start opposite Storm Duck and alongside Hilton in the slot. Minkah Fitzpatrick, one of the best safeties in the league, will be the last line of defense behind them.
