Left field has been a revolving door for the San Diego Padres, and not in a good way.

Padres left fielders are hitting .222/.276/.318 this season, with only six home runs across the position. That lack of production to the team's broader power issues. San Diego ranks 27th in MLB with 88 home runs. It's a glaring weak spot in an otherwise talented roster still fighting for a postseason birth.

The lack of consistent offense and occasional defensive lapses has pushed the Padres to explore external solutions. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, San Diego has expressed interest in trio of outfielders: Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians, Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox and Ramón Laureano of the Baltimore Orioles.

Their interest in Kwan was reported earlier this week. The 26-year-ild brings elite contact skills, speed and Gold Glove-caliber defence. He's slashing .274/.344/.377 with 21 doubles this year and fits the profile of a top-of-the-order, high-floor addition.

Robert would be a flashier, move expensive option. When healthy, he's one of the most dynamic power-speed threats in baseball. But his health remains the question. He's played 50 games this season but managed 14 home runs and a .498 slugging percentage. Robert is under team control through 2027, which could appeal to San Diego if they're thinking beyond this season.

Laureano, meanwhile, represents a more modest target. He's slashing .212/.293/.365 for Baltimore this season but is a strong defender with postseason experience. If the Padres are looking for a short-term punch, Laureano could be had for a lighter prospect return.

Whether the Padres opt for Kwan's bat-to-ball skills, Robert's ceiling, or Laureano's experience, it's clear the Padres are trying to shore up a key weakness before it costs them a spot in October.
