The Detroit Tigers announced a roster move ahead of their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the Detroit Tigers reeling after a rough stretch of games, dropping 12 of their last 13, including six straight, the roster needs some help. Fortunately, ahead of the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Tigers got some help.
The Tigers announced that outfielder Kerry Carpenter was activated off the injured list, and infielder Trey Sweeney was optioned to Triple-A to open a spot for the Tigers' slugger on the MLB roster.

INF Trey Sweeney has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
Carpenter's return is a great sign for the Tigers. Amid their rough stretch, they need all the help they can get. So far this season, Carpenter has been very solid at the plate.
He's hitting .257 with 68 hits, 16 home runs, 40 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, 32 RBIs, only seven walks, and 60 strikeouts. His .780 OPS is fifth on the team among players with at least 100 at-bats.

The 27-year-old left-handed hitter has been out for some time with a hamstring issue, and after going through a few rehab starts in the minors, he's making his return to the Tigers roster at a pivotal time. He's taking Sweeney's roster spot, who's had his struggles this season.
Sweeney, in his time in the majors this season, has a .208 batting average with five home runs and 27 RBIs. His .578 OPS is one of the lowest marks on the team, beating out only Parker Meadows among Tigers players with at least 100 at-bats this season.
With the trade deadline right around the corner, Carpenter's return comes at an opportune time for Detroit. The Tigers have struggled a lot lately and need to find a way to bounce back soon. Carpenter, even if only a little bit, should help the Tigers rebound amid a rough stretch.
