The New York Yankees need to add pitching before the trade deadline, and may part ways with a young slugger to do so.
The New York Yankees seem poised to make another deep postseason run after losing in the World Series last season.
New York sits in second place in its division, but holds the first American League Wild Card playoff spot. The Yankees' offense began the season blazing hot and has propelled the team forward throughout the season; however, an abundance of injuries to the pitching staff has left the team searching for answers before the trade deadline.
With their roster full of talented outfielders, including Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Jasson Domínguez, the Yankees surprisingly are reportedly open to trading one of their top prospects, outfielder Spencer Jones, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
"The New York Yankees are open to trading prized outfield prospect Spencer Jones, rival GMs say," Nightengale wrote.
New York selected Jones with its first-round pick in the 2022 draft, and the 24-year-old has been excelling in the minor leagues this season. Since being moved up to Triple-A, Jones is slashing .400/.457/1.407 and has mashed 13 home runs. He has power from the left side, but does he fit in the Yankees' lineup?

With New York's crowded outfield, it would be tough to find Jones time. New York is in desperate need of pitching, as they rank in the lower half of the league in team ERA, and as pressure mounts to make a move, Jones could be just the piece the team needs to trade for a solid arm before the trade deadline.
