Remember the name Browm Martinez.
Washington Nationals fans, remember the name Browm Martinez.
Yes, that's spelled correctly.
Martinez is an 18-year old Dominican outfielder who the Nats just added in a trade with the New York Yankees.
They sent out Amed Rosario for a pitcher, Clayton Beeter, along with Martinez.
Beeter can contribute at the MLB level a bit in the near term, but Martinez is the long-term excitement here.
Martinez isn't a big guy, listed at just 5-foot-10 and 161 pounds, although likely still with time to grow.
But he can hit.
He broke into the Dominican Summer League as a 17-year old and batted .278 with four doubles, 19 RBI and 21 steals in just 38 games.
He's returned to that level this year and is cruising. Martinez is batting .404 with four doubles, three homers and 13 steals in 14 attempts, and that's in just 18 games played. He has an on-base percentage of .507, a slugging of .632 and an OPS of 1.139.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the Nationals move him to a full-season league to test him the rest of the season.
If not, he'll get his first move up the ladder next year.
Either way, it's a great guy for the Nationals to take a chance on for a player in Rosario who had no part of the future in the nation's capital.
