Blue Jays Facing Trade Decision After Injury News on Thursday

The Toronto Blue Jays are winning, but they also have a problem.

The Toronto Blue Jays aren't just hot; they could rule over the AL soon. They're tied with the Houston Astros for the league's best record ahead of their clash with the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, who trail them by a half-game.

Toronto's offense has been reliable recently, as it has scored multiple runs in nine straight games and at least four in eight of them. However, its pitching has been effective as well, as it allowed more than four runs in just four of those contests.

Still, the Blue Jays could stand to add another pitcher as the Trade Deadline approaches, given Thursday's news about right-hander Yimi Garcia, via MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

"Yimi García got a cortisone injection in his elbow, John Schneider says, and he’ll he shut down from throwing for two more weeks before they ramp him back up," Matheson reported.

Garcia, who hasn't pitched since July 2, is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 22 appearances this season. The 34-year-old also has three saves out of seven opportunities as well as six holds.

Garcia is just one of many pitchers on Toronto's IL, as Alek Manoah (elbow), Ryan Burr (shoulder), Bowden Francis (shoulder), and Nick Sandlin (elbow) are some of the other unavailable hurlers. The Blue Jays could look to add a bullpen arm to eat innings while these players rehab.

Southpaw pitcher Eric Lauer (5-2, 2.80 ERA) will start for Toronto against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson (4-3, 2.71 ERA) on Thursday.
