The Green Bay Packers added Israel Abanikanda, a third-year running back, and Garnett Hollis Jr., a rookie cornerback.
GREEN BAY − The Green Bay Packers added a player on each side of the ball July 26, filling out their 91-man roster.
The Packers claimed running back Israel Abanikanda off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. A third-year player, Abanikanda was a fifth-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 2023.
The 5-foot-10, 217-pounder played six games in his two seasons, rushing for 70 yards on 22 carries. Abanikanda also had seven receptions for 43 yards. He was released by the Jets last December and finished the 2024 season with the 49ers. Abanikanda will wear No. 23 in Green Bay.
The Packers also added cornerback Garnett Hollis Jr., an undrafted rookie, who initially signed with the Tennessee Titans this spring. The 6-0, 199-pounder had two interceptions and 14 defended passes in his college career at West Virginia and Northwestern, making 29 starts in 39 games. Hollis will wear No. 41 in Green Bay.
The Packers will return to practice at 10:30 a.m. July 27.
