Ravens star claims "it's still me" after early test from Lamar Jackson
'It's Still Me': Claims Ravens Star After Early Test From Lamar Jackson originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Last season, the Baltimore Ravens produced some solid defensive numbers, finishing the year ranked 10th in total yards per game allowed (324.2) and ninth in points per game allowed (21.2).
They're only looking to improve in 2025, which is evident by some big offseason additions, including the signing of cornerback Jaire Alexander, who joins the team on a one-year, $4 million contract.
On Thursday, Alexander participated in his first day of training camp, and while talking to reporters, he revealed an interaction with Lamar Jackson after the quarterback tested him early on.
“Lamar, yeah, yeah, he threw a back shoulder, you know he tried to throw a back shoulder on me with DHop [DeAndre Hopkins],” Alexander said. “You know, I had to give him a little jazz about that, you know, I said ‘come on now, I know it’s my first day, but you know it’s still me…’ But you know it’s always fun, man, we can joke like that.”

There's certainly some hope that Alexander will make an immediate impact with the Ravens, but throughout his seven-year career, injuries have been a major struggle, playing in seven games or less in three separate seasons (2021, 2023 and 2024).
When healthy, though, he's among the best in the NFL, which is evident by his 2022 season, where he earned Pro Bowl honors after allowing just 49 completions, 572 yards, two touchdowns and a 63.7 passer rating on 82 targets.
Seeing Alexander and Jackson share a moment like this early on doesn't come as too much of a surprise, either, as they were teammates with the Louisville Cardinals for three years (2015 to 2017), and were both selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Now, just like their college days, the two share a similar goal, though slightly different, because instead of trying to achieve excellence with Louisville, they look to help the Ravens win their first Super Bowl since winning it all to close out the 2012 season.
