Popular NFL coach has been left hanging: Is Eagles’ OC job next?

The Eagles could target popular NFL coach for OC opening.

The Eagles have a new offensive coordinator candidate who could be their most attractive option.

On Monday, the Buffalo Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott, making offensive coordinator Joe Brady available to the Eagles and other NFL teams. Over the last five years, Brady has been considered one of the top offensive coaches in the NFL.

He was the Panthers’ offensive coordinator from 2020-2021 before joining the Bills as their quarterbacks coach in 2022. He was promoted to Buffalo’s OC job during the 2023 season.

Before returning to the NFL in 2020, Brady was the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for LSU during the team’s National Championship run in 2019. He coached Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, as well as Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Brady’s extensive experience, early coaching success at 36 and potential upside could make him an intriguing candidate for Philadelphia.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman interviewed Brady for their head coaching job in 2021, but he ultimately chose Nick Sirianni for that position.

Roseman also interviewed Kellen Moore during that search and later hired him as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator in 2024. Moore’s success during the Super Bowl season led to him getting hired as the Saints’ head coach in 2025.

If Brady gets the Eagles’ offense back on an elite track, he could follow a similar path, leaving after one season for a head coaching opening.

This season, the Bills finished with the fourth-best total offense in the NFL, ranking first in rushing and 15th in passing.

The Eagles need to fix their run game next season, and Brady’s offensive scheme could be the answer. The Bills averaged 159.6 rushing yards per game. Last season, they averaged 131.2 yards per game, which ranked ninth in the league.

Brady also helped Bills quarterback Josh Allen win an MVP two years ago. Now, he could guide Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to one of his best seasons in 2026. He could also unlock Philadelphia’s passing game, which has struggled over the past two seasons.

Ultimately, the Bills could hire Brady as their next head coach, or he could land another HC job with another organization. But if that doesn’t materialize, he could become one of the Eagles’ top OC candidates.
