Rotherham United Community Trust is raising funds for new electric wheelchairs.
A powerchair football team has launched a fundraising campaign to replace its "worn-out" equipment.
The Rotherham United Community Trust is aiming to raise £50,000 to replace its fleet of modified electric wheelchairs.
The team, which is the only one in South Yorkshire and has no age limit, offers an accessible form of the sport to people with physical disabilities and reduced mobility.
Director of development Jonny Allen said: "For a lot of our participants, this is their only opportunity to get involved in sport and feel part of a team; it's a sport which focuses on what they can do, not what they can't do."
The wheelchairs used for the sport have front bumpers attached to them to allow contact with the ball, and are designed to be easily manoeuvrable with faster acceleration and speeds.
Dylan Hadley, head of communities and inclusion for the trust, said: "They're old, they were second-hand and donated from Middlesbrough - they were already well-loved.
"But our competitors now can't compete on a level playing field because our chairs aren't good enough."
He said each chair cost about £5,500.
'Increased confidence'
Rowan, 11, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy - a severe, life-limiting genetic disorder - has been part of the team for more than a year.
His mother Laura said the sport had "massively increased his confidence and given him a way of expressing himself".
"He has made new friends and enjoys spending time with all the amazing coaches, and he has learnt some important skills from them around being resilient and working as a team."
Fellow player Andy Webb has been a wheelchair user all his life and started taking part in the sport in 2022.
"I'd never heard of it, but it was a totally different world when I was growing up," the 63-year-old said.
"One reason I'm involved in this now is that I want these kids to have the opportunities I never had.
"The players we've got here, they're going to be absolutely brilliant, but the wheelchairs are a bit like me - they've seen better days."
