Syracuse football: Marvin Harrison to be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

A major honor for one of the Orange’s greatest receivers ever.

One of Syracuse Orange football’s most productive players of the nineties and most memorable receivers in team history will soon be officially honored as one of the best to ever play in the sport in college.

Marvin Harrison is one of 18 players selected to be part of the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday. Harrison will be 11th player in program history and 17th individual with ties to the program that will be admitted to the CFB Hall of Fame.

He will also be the first player from the Orange to enter the College Football Hall of Fame since Dwight Freeney in 2023. Only two Syracuse receivers have ever been named to the Hall of Fame: Art Monk and now Harrison.

Harrison played 44 games across four years for the Orange between 1992 and 1995. After having just two catches in his freshman year, he exploded in 1993 with 41 receptions, over 800 yards and seven touchdowns. Harrison’s senior year would be his best, when he had a career-high 56 receptions, 1,131 yards, over 20 yards per catch and eight TDs.

He is equally as remembered for his success as a returner, winning the Big East Special Teams Player of the Year in 1995. That same year, his campaign was also good enough to be selected as an All-American.

In his Syracuse career, Harrison finished with 135 catches for over 2,700 yards and 21 total TDs. He is currently second all-time in program history in receiving yards and TDs.

That production would eventually lead him to be picked 19th overall in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Harrison would go on to play 13 years with the Colts, during which he was the team’s best receiver for nine years, made the Pro Bowl eight times and won Super Bowl XL.

Including Harrison, the rest of the Syracuse players in the College Football Hall of Fame (in alphabetical order based on last name) include the following names: Joe Alexander, Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Ernie Davis, Freeney, Tim Green, Vic Hanson, Floyd Little, Don McPherson and Monk. The other inductees, the rest of whom were former coaches, are Howard Jones, Tad Jones, Dick MacPherson, Clarence Munn, Frank O’Neill and Ben Schwartzwalder.

Harrison will officially be inducted during the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in December at the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Harrison is also set to be honored at Syracuse University at some point in the fall, according to the foundation.
