As campaign boosts game's Metacritic score, eBay sellers are looking to move sealed copies
A long-running internet meme involving the less-than critically acclaimed 2008 Nintendo DS video game “Cory in the House” (based on the short-lived “That’s So Raven” spin-off show) has led to a campaign to make the game the highest user-rated title on Metacritic ... and collectors have taken notice.
As the meme spread across the internet Wednesday and the game’s Metacritic user rating surged near the top of the site’s rankings (behind the top-rated “Clair Obscure: Expedition 33”), a sealed copy of "Cory in the House" sold for $199 on eBay.
Ongoing auctions for sealed copy of the games have attracted even higher bids, with one copy sitting at $260 with nearly a week remaining in the bidding.
Reviews of the game on Metacritic are predictably ironic, declaring sentiments such as “This game saved me. I was in a dark place and when I got to play Cory in the House, my whole life turned around.”
Another reads, “Simply the epitome of human creation and imagination. Every work from Orwell, Poe, Huxley, and even Kafka himself have next to nothing compared to this masterpiece of art. The extraordinary depth of the writing and characters is matched perfectly by the cinematography and color matching of each scene immensely.”
