Joan Laporta sends message to fans about Hansi Flick’s future at Barcelona

The president hopes he will stay for a long time.

Barcelona president Hansi Flick has told fans to be calm about Hansi Flick’s future and that’s he confident the manager will remain at the club for a long time.

Flick’s contract expires in 2027 and there’s been talk already that Barcelona are keen to extend his deal.

Laporta spoke about Flick after seeing him win yet another final for the Catalan giants by beating Real Madrid at the Spanish Super Cup and is confident he will stay on.

“I hope he will be there for many more seasons,” he told the media.

“I tell the fans to be calm in this aspect because he has a contract for more seasons and, most importantly, Hansi Flick’s contract is made with the heart and from the league he has established with the club and the city of Barcelona where he feels very comfortable.”

Flick is not a fan of long-term contracts but has regularly said he loves the club and is happy at Barca. Amid talk of a new contract at the end of last year, he admitted the forthcoming presidential elections will be a factor in his plans.

“A year and a half is a long time for a coach. I’m very happy to be working at this club, with Deco and all the staff. My staff is fantastic, Deco is incredible, and I have a great relationship with him,” he said.

“I’m here because of the president, and it’s important to have his confidence. For me, another year and a half is fine, but it also matters to me whether the president is still here. If we play well and are successful, that’s important.”

Laporta was asked when the elections could take place after the Super Cup win and said an announcement will be made soon: “We want to announce the date in January or at the latest at the beginning of February.”
