Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Napoli in the Serie A top-of-the-table clash at San Siro on Sunday evening.
Federico Dimarco got Inter off to a flying start, opening the scoring inside eighth minute when he picked out the far corner from an acute angle.
Napoli equalised with their first chance as Eljif Elmas whipped a low cross into the area, and Scott McTominay got in front of Manuel Akanji to tuck the ball into the net.
McTominay then forced goalkeeper Yan Sommer to make his first save of the game, as Napoli pushed to take the lead.
At the other end, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic was also called into action before the break, tipping Marcus Thuram’s header over before collecting Yann Bisseck’s tame effort.
Soon after the interval, Rasmus Hojlund almost gave Napoli the lead, showing athleticism and strength to get to Milinkovic-Savic’s pass, only to see his effort narrowly drift wide.
Inter were then awarded a penalty following Amir Rrahmani’s foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, leading to frustration from manager Antonio Conte, who was sent off.
Hakan Calhanoglu stepped up to convert, sending Milinkovic-Savic the wrong way to restore the hosts lead.
Napoli did not give up and they drew level again in the 81st minute, through McTominay, who volleyed the ball home to net his fifth league goal of the campaign.
Mkhitaryan nearly secured the maximum points for the hosts in stoppage time but was denied by the woodwork.
Despite the result, Inter still sit atop the standings, three points clear of second-placed AC Milan who played out a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina.
