Tigers in the Majors: Alex Bregman Gets PAID

Geaux Cubs Geaux

Former LSU great Alex Bregman is now a very, very rich man.

The former Tiger is trading in his Red Sox for Cubbie Blue as Bregman signed a five-year $175 million deal with the Chicago Cubs Saturday night.

A three-time All-Star, Bregman opted out of a $40 million player option with Boston to hit free agency for a second consecutive offseason. Chicago pursued Bregman last winter, and a year later they finally got pen to paper.

Bregman was looking for a longterm deal both this winter and last and finally got it. Boston offered a competitive offer (5 years, $165 million), but Bregman got slightly more money from Chicago.

Bregman made the All-Star team last season with Boston, despite missing time with a quad injury. In 114 games, Bregman hit .273/.360/.462 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs. Over the course of his 10 years in the Big Leagues, Bregman has hit .272/.365/.481 with 209 home runs and 725 RBIs and won two World Series with the Houston Astros.
