The Longhorns have landed their top defensive tackle target in the portal.
The Texas Longhorns landed their first commitment from the NCAA transfer portal since the window opened two days ago when Arkansas Razorbacks transfer defensive tackle Ian Geffrard pledged while on a visit to the Forty Acres.
Ranked as the No. 57 overall prospect and the No. 4 defensive lineman in the portal, according to the 247Sports rankings, Geffrard has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The 6’5, 387-pounder had previously scheduled trips to Auburn, Kentucky, and SMU, setting up an important portal recruitment for Texas position coach Kenny Baker, who has found success with transfers over his two seasons in Austin.
A Georgia product who attempted Whitfield Academy in Mableton, Geffrard’s projection to college was complicated by playing on both sides of the ball, finishing the 2023 recruiting cycle as a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 1,166 player nationally and the No. 90 offensive tackle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Geffrard chose Arkansas over offers from Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Texas, among others.
At Arkansas, Geffrard played in four games as a true freshman, preserving his redshirt while making two tackles against Western Carolina. In 2024, Geffrard moved into the rotation, playing in 12 games and tallying 13 total tackles (four solo, nine assists) over 191 snaps. During the 2025 season, Geffrard took another step forward as a full-time starter, recording 25 tackles, including four for loss, and a pass breakup.
Pro Football Focus credited Geffrard with 13 defensive stops and eight quarterback hurries as he graded out as a solid run defender and less effective pass rusher. At least one Arkansas was left frustrated by the ability of opposing offenses to displace Geffrard with double teams despite his massive size, but Baker now has a proven track record of cleaning up fundamentals like that.
