The New York Mets could add outfield help before the Trade Deadline.

The New York Mets are in position to make another NLCS run, and possibly even more if things break right. They're currently a half-game out of first place in the NL East and one game behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL's top Wild Card spot.

Several Mets players are having quality seasons, including 2025 All-Stars Pete Alonso, Edwin Díaz, Francisco Lindor, and David Peterson. Superstar outfielder Juan Soto also leads the squad with 24 homers and a .391 OBP.

However, New York could still add position player depth ahead of the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline. General manager David Stearns opened up about that possibility before Monday's bout with the Los Angeles Angels, via SNY.

"I look at our position player grouping, and for the most part, I'm pretty pleased with where we are...The one position where we haven't gotten the level of production that we anticipated coming into the year is center field, and I don't think I'm saying anything that's gonna surprise anyone," he said.

"But I really like the defense that Tyrone Taylor brings and how he contributes to this team. I also think Jeff [McNeil] is growing more comfortable out there," he continued. "I think that for me at least, the bar to improve center field has probably risen over the past two weeks...I'm certain we're gonna be engaged [in the trade market], but we gotta clear a bar that actually makes us better given the price that I think these things are gonna cost."

This comes almost a month after a trade report about Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr., via USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

“The likelihood of Robert being traded barring an injury? Just about 100%,” he wrote. “… It’s not as if anyone is going to pick up the $20 million options on him this year or next, but the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are keeping close tabs on him."

Robert is hitting just .201 with 10 homers and 38 RBI this year, but he earned All-Star and Silver Slugger honors in 2023. The last-place White Sox could be sellers at the deadline, so sending the veteran to New York is a viable possibility.
