The New York Mets are no strangers to struggling stars this season. Slugger Juan Soto hit .232 in April and .219 in May after signing a record 15-year, $765 million deal with the team in the offseason. Now, shortstop Francisco Lindor has gone cold at the plate.

The 31-year-old's 0-for-2 start in New York's game with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday extended his hitless streak to 0-for-28, the longest of his career. He struck out swinging in the first inning and flied out to center in the fourth.

Lindor is in danger of making the wrong kind of franchise history, via MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

Rey Ordoñez owns the Mets' record with a 0-for-37 streak in 1997. Lindor hasn't had a hit since July 12, when he went 1-for-4 with a run scored in an 8-3 win against the Kansas City Royals.

New York fans want the team to give Lindor a day off.

"0-27.... Lindor needs to sit a game," one fan said.

"I would not start Lindor tomorrow," another said. "He needs to sit a game. Dudes straight garbage right now."

"Bench Lindor tomorrow and play Acuna," another pleaded. "Bat him leadoff. Lindor needs a day off, as do Mets fans from watching him. Rest up and get him ready for SF."

"He really should sit out. That toe has to be bothering him," another said.

"Lindor going to break the record," another predicted.

"Lindor & Pete Look Awful At The Plate!!" another said.
