Speaking on Radio Estadio Noche (Onda Cero), Abelardo and Santiago Segurola delivered a bleak assessment of both Real Madrid’s performance and Xabi Alonso’s position within the club following the latest result.
Abelardo focused on Alonso’s demeanor and the lack of institutional backing. “You can see on the bench that Xabi Alonso is having a hard time,” he said. For Abelardo, the situation goes beyond tactics. “The worst thing a coach can feel is that the club is not with him; and it’s clear the club hasn’t given him that power, they are not supporting him.”
Segurola was even more direct in his criticism of the team’s display. “Yesterday’s was one of the worst matches Real Madrid have played in recent years; they played worse than against Celta,” he said. He framed the issue as structural rather than momentary.
According to Segurola, Alonso has been left exposed. “A coach who is suffering has been left alone,” he stated, pointing to the absence of public backing from the board. That silence, in his view, speaks volumes. “The club’s silence says a lot about how little consideration the coach is being given.”
