One of the greatest players in Tennessee Titans history was recognized on Saturday by the state of Tennessee. Derrick Mason, arguably the best receiver in Titans history, was officially inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025.

Some Titans fans may not recognize his name or remember the work of art that he put on display in Nashville from 1999 to 2004, but his impact becomes obvious to those who have watched him play.

His teammates understood how valuable he was, however, and several of them expressed their thoughts on Mason's great distinction to Athlon Sports.

Former Titans safety Blaine Bishop, a four-time Pro Bowler and a Second-Team All-Pro in 2000, made a bold proclamation about Mason upon hearing the news.

“Titans' all-time best wide receiver and even better human being. Well-deserved," Bishop said.

Dr. Kevin Dyson, who was a wide receiver with the Tennessee Oilers and Titans from 1998 to 2002, also made strong comments about Mason after the announcement was made.

"Mase being inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is a proud moment for all of us who know his journey to become an elite wide receiver in the NFL," Dyson said. "He had tremendous dedication to his craft, and Mase was one of the most underrated wide receivers of our era, and I couldn’t be happier for him."

Bishop and Mason were not the only two former Titans who had something to say regarding Mason and his latest honor. Former Titans offensive tackle Brad Hopkins, a two-time Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro in 2000, had this to say about his former teammate:

"When you look at candidates that are already in the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, they are synonymous with what Derrick meant to our franchise," Hopkins said. "Super-talented player that was impactful and also a huge catalyst for us having the success that we did back in the early 2000s. Very well-deserved. Unbelievable guy and an even better teammate. I wish him nothing but the best, and this is long overdue."

Hopkins, Dyson, and Bishop all recognized the impact that Mason had on the franchise, but what’s even more important is that they recognized the human being he is. Considering Mason was a fourth-round draft pick in 1994 who initially entered the league as a return specialist, it is remarkable to see what he became with hard work and determination on the field.

Mason recorded four 1,000-yard receiving seasons in a row, which no one else wearing a Titans uniform has ever done before. In fact, no Titans player has four total 1,000-yard seasons on their resume.

He also recorded over 1,000 yards as a returner during the 1999 season, the year the Titans went to the Super Bowl. In 2000, he had over 800 yards receiving in just 10 starts, 662 punt return yards and over 1,100 kickoff return yards, which is something not commonly achieved in the NFL.

Congratulations to Derrick Mason on the incredible honor of being put in the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Like Hopkins and Bishop said, it is well-deserved.
