3 Steelers with something to prove heading into training camp

These 3 Steelers are worth watching as the team gets to work at training camp in Latrobe ahead of the 2025 season.

Steelers training camp is almost upon us — and several players will arrive in Latrobe with plenty to prove. From a fullback-tight end hybrid battling for his role to a future Hall of Fame quarterback in what could be his final act, here are three Steelers with something to prove at training camp.

With the addition of TE Jonnu Smith on offense and another FB/TE hybrid in undrafted rookie DJ Thomas-Jones vying for his starting role, it's safe to say Connor Heyward has a lot to prove at training camp. He hinted at primarily playing fullback this upcoming season — but the third-year Steeler will look to silence all the doubters in Latrobe, locking up a spot on the 53-man roster in the process.

WR Roman Wilson

There's no debating many Steelers wideouts have heard the 'Pittsburgh needs a WR2 criticism' — and Roman Wilson is ready to step up to the plate. It's safe to say his rookie season didn't pan out exactly as planned — missing almost the entirety of 2024 with an ankle injury — but his time to shine has almost arrived, as training camp is perfect early-proving grounds for the second-year Steeler.

QB Aaron Rodgers

There might be no Steeler with more to prove this season than four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers. After an abrupt exit from a polarizing two-year tenure with the New York Jets, the 20-year veteran QB will look to prove he has more than enough in the tank for a deep playoff push in 2025 — a swan song for what's shaping up to be Rodgers' last season in the NFL.
