The Philadelphia 76ers are entering a pivotal season in this era of Sixer basketball.

Former MVP center Joel Embiid has a multitude of injury concerns, with no one 100% sure if the star big man will be healthy in time for the regular season. Paul George, who has dealt with his own perilous injury history over the last few seasons, has to live up to the lengthy max contract he signed in the Summer of 2024.

With a budding young All-Star in Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers have insurance for the future if Embiid and George flame out, but should they sacrifice parts of the future to maximize their current window with their aging stars?

76ers Trade Idea Lands Sharpshooter Forward

In a trade idea proposed by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, the 76ers would ship out second-year guard Jared McCain and veteran guard Kelly Oubre Jr. to the Sacramento Kings for forward Keegan Murray. The Iowa product would fit in nicely with the rest of Philadelphia's core and also lines up in terms of age with the 76ers' young nucleus of Maxey and V. J. Edgecombe.

"Murray set the rookie record with 206 made triples, has been a durable three-year starter and would give the Sixers some badly needed three-and-D support alongside (or as a replacement for an injured) Paul George." Wrote Hughes.

Philadelphia desperately needs to win in 2025-26, especially if head coach Nick Nurse and President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey want to keep their jobs. Reports of tension in the locker room marred their incredibly disappointing 24-58 record last season. Adding in some fresh faces and a reshuffling of the roster may be just what the 76ers need to turn it around.
