The Atlanta Falcons are getting their roster right for the upcoming season after their final preseason game took place on Friday against the Cowboys. The roster moves have already begun, but another addition is expected soon, as Kaleb McGary is now likely to undergo season-ending surgery.

“Kaleb McGary is now leaning towards having surgery on his knee, per source. ‘He wants to do it. It’s been a chronic issue since high school.’ If surgery is done, this would likely end McGary’s season,” BroTalk posted.

The Falcons made a very questionable decision on Saturday during their flurry of roster cuts, including releasing Morgan Fox. Fox was signed to an $8.5 million deal in the offseason to bolster the defensive line.

Fox was cut after a less-than-stellar preseason, but the decision comes with a price, much like Kirk Cousins’ current situation. Three million dollars of Fox’s deal was guaranteed, so the Falcons will be losing money on a player who won’t be contributing.

“DL Morgan Fox had $3 million guaranteed in the two-year contract he signed with the Falcons this past offseason. Now, he’s been released,” Falcons beat reporter Marc Raimondi wrote.

This situation has many similarities to Cousins’ ordeal, with the main difference being that Fox won’t be on the roster anymore. Losing part of that money will take a toll on Atlanta.

Fox will likely be picked up by another team, but what once seemed like a solid signing has now turned into wasted money. The Falcons are making their final cuts as they prepare for the season opener against the Buccaneers.

The defensive line will feature a mix of veterans and young players ready to rewrite the narrative from last season. Fox may be gone, but he will still get his money.
