Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is set to star in a new movie with Hailee Steinfeld. According to Deadline, Metcalf has been added to the cast of Asteroid, which premieres at the Venice Film Festival’s immersive showcase this week.
Asteroid is directed by Doug Liman and tells the story of “a group of strangers who take the risk of a lifetime to travel to a nearby asteroid for the opportunity to mine for wealth beyond their wildest dreams.” Following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Asteroid will launch on Google’s Android XR platform later this year.
DK Metcalf is no stranger to making appearances in TV shows and films. The former Ole Miss star played himself in the 2022 movie Secret Headquarters. He also appeared in an episode of the TV series Bel-Air.
More on DK Metcalf and Hailee Steinfeld
The premiere of Metcalf’s new film comes as he gets ready to make his debut with the Steelers. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver joined Pittsburgh in March after spending his first six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf was set to enter his final year of his three-year contract with the Seahawks, but the team traded him to the Steelers for a 2025 second-round draft pick. He then agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension with the Steelers.
In his six seasons with the Seahawks, Metcalf caught 438 passes for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns. He was selected to the All-Pro Second Team in 2020 after tallying 83 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 TDs.
Hailee Steinfeld, an Academy Award nominee, is no stranger to the NFL, as she is married to Buffalo Bills quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen. The couple tied the knot in Ventura, California, on May 31.
Earlier this month, Allen was asked about being married to Steinfeld. “I mean, to have the support that I do at home, and to have someone that I share similar life interests with and wants in life, it’s an awesome feeling,” Allen said during the Bills’ preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 17. “I get to support somebody as much as she supports me. So, very happy, obviously.”
