Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron knew Joe Brady was going to be a standup coach throughout college football and the NFL. Back in 2019, Brady was the passing-game coordinator for the Tigers and helped a loaded team go 15-0 and win the national championship.

Brady was previously a linebackers coach at William and Mary, a GA at Penn State and an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints before getting to LSU. In just one season under Orgeron in Baton Rouge, Brady became a superstar.

Safe to say, Orgeron gave himself some credit for identifying talent in, not only players, but coaches as well. Now, Brady enters his second season as the OC for the Buffalo Bills.

“Recognizing talent. I mean, that’s been part of my strengths as a recruiter,” Orgeron said on Pardon My Take. “When Joe came and he spoke to our staff in the summer, I knew this guy was gonna be a great coach. I mean, Ray Charles could see that shit.”

Under Brady’s direction, quarterback Joe Burrow had one of the greatest individual seasons in the history of college football. En route to a Heisman Trophy, Burrow threw for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 76.3% completion percentage.

Brady became the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers the very next season, coaching there for two seasons. However, he was fired prior to the end of the 2021 season.

But, Brady bounced back with the Bills in 2022 after he was hired as the quarterbacks coach. Like coaching Burrow at LSU, he had a chance to coach another elite QB talent: Josh Allen.

Brady actually became the interim offensive coordinator near the end of the 2023 season following the firing of Ken Dorsey. While coaching Allen, Brady started pressing all of the right buttons.

The culmination was last season. Brady, as the OC, coached Allen to, arguably, his best season. Considering he won the NFL MVP, it’s hard to argue against it.

Allen threw for 3,731 yards after four straight years of 4,000+. He also had 28 touchdowns and a career low six interceptions, to go along with a 63.6% completion percentage. Brady gave Allen the freedom to run too as the QB ran for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns.

At this rate, Brady looks like a future head coach. For now, he’ll try to help the Bills win their first Super Bowl. He can thank Orgeron for spotting him six years ago too!
