Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. confronted a Dallas Cowboys fan Friday as he walked to the locker room. The fan called Penix by name, but jokingly said Michael “Penis.”

Of course, with the way Penix’s name is spelled, the joke is easy to make for someone looking to do so. A news station in Savannah, Georgia also misspelled his last name accidentally, flashing the referenced word on the screen as his name.

Naturally, Penix wasn’t too pleased with the childish remark. He then confronted the fan, who seemed to backtrack a little bit when he actually got the quarterback’s attention.

Penix eventually made his way to the locker room without any further confrontation. BUt it was an unfortunate incident for the QB as the fan’s jeer was caught on camera too.

After the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins in free agency last season, they selected Penix at No. 8 overall in last year’s draft. Penix started the last three games for the Falcons last year and posted a 1-2 record, with both losses coming in overtime. Overall, Penix played in five games in 2024 and threw for 775 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

“The fans got a little taste of what it could possibly be, and I think we’re going to strive for that every game now,” Falcons wide receiver Drake London said about Penix in January, per AtlantaFalcons.com. “[In the] offseason, we’ve got to get after it and get right, because we want to get into the postseason and start playing for something real.”

“The trust that this staff has in this young player to be able to execute some of those things is probably a little higher just because of who the guy is,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said about Penix. “The poise, his attention to detail, to be able to explain it to him very calmly from the headsets, from the field, to watch him know that he’s got to get this ball up and down in five seconds so we can kick this field goal if we didn’t get the completion.”

Penix was not scheduled to play in the Falcons’ last two preseason games, but he said he’ll be ready to go when the regular season kicks off next month. Falcon fans are excited to see what Year 2 brings.

“I’m always going to be ready,” Penix said this week, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s my job, to be ready whenever Week 1 comes. In college, you didn’t have (any) (exhibition) season (games). It’s like, you’ve got your spring game and you’re going into Week 1. It’s the same thing. I’m going to be ready Week 1. Whenever it counts, I’m going to show up. I’ll be there.”
