5 quick observations from the Jets' 19-17 preseason loss to the Eagles.
It was a grind and then some (as is usually the case in the preseason finale), but the New York Jets have concluded their 2025 NFL preseason schedule.
Unfortunately, the Jets did fall short in this one to the tune of a 19-17 final against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.
Despite the contest not involving many starters and players already locked into roster spots, there were still jobs on the line.
With that, here are Jets Wire's five takeaways from the Jets' preseason loss to the Eagles:
Brady Cook starts
Perhaps a sign that he is ahead on the depth chart, Brady Cook started under center for the Jets offense. Cook played decent, nothing spectacular. There still should be a question mark about the QB2 position if Tyrod Taylor (knee) is not healthy for opening day.
Cook ended the contest 13-for-19 passing for 99 yards with an interception. Cook's top highlight was his two-minute drill which led to a late field goal in the first half.
Martinez with a few giveaways but posts comeback
After Cook, Adrian Martinez took over at quarterback. It started poorly.
Martinez did not feel the pressure and fumbled the ball away. Then he had an interception... but give him credit. Martinez led the offense that made a comeback that fell just short.
Martinez couldn't get the Jets into field goal range late but finished the contest 7-for-14 passing for 86 yards and that pick. Martinez did run in a two-point conversion as well.
He feels more like a potential practice squad player, but a solid one.
Moore a standout
Simply put, the fourth-round rookie safety for the Jets, Malachi Moore, was all over the field for the defense in the first half. No doubt about that.
The stats say it all:
Malachi Moore had

7 tackles
1 INT
1 TFL
1 PD
AND a great special teams play

Penalty issue never went away
The penalty problem that was around for the Jets prior to head coach Aaron Glenn coming back home? It's still there.
Cook's night wasn't great but there were plenty of flags holding him back early on.
In the end, New York took 10 penalties for a loss of 78 yards.

Brandon Smith grab a job?
To end on a positive note, there is a chance for wide receiver Brandon Smith grabbed three catches on four targets for 42 yards.
He may grab a final receiver roster spot ahead of UDFA rookie Quentin Skinner, who played well himself too. Skinner had three catches for 40 yards but could certainly found himself at least a practice squad spot.
