The Falcons could very well make a move to replace Kaleb McGary until he is healthy. However, it isn't going to be a move that will be jaw dropping.

The Atlanta Falcons experienced something no team wants to see, especially so close to the end of training camp. Michael Penix Jr.’s blindside protector and Falcons veteran Kaleb McGary went down with what appeared to be a significant injury. Unfortunately, no timetable has been set for his return.

“The Falcons appear to be opting for a patient route with Kaleb McGary. I'd expect they're going for a second opinion, but they felt compelled to release something (even if it's incredibly vague). Everything could still be on the table, from a scare to out for the season... TBD,” SI’s Garrett Chapman wrote.

The Falcons’ current roster doesn’t have anyone who seems ready to step into McGary’s role. With swing tackle Storm Norton also sidelined due to injury, the tackle position is under even greater strain.

“Atlanta is currently without swing tackle Storm Norton, who has been dealing with an injury of his own over the past few weeks. Without McGary or Norton, the tackle position opposite Jake Matthews is in a grim state. The current options to step in for McGary would be veteran Brandon Parker or rookie Jack Nelson. Both have been inconsistent at best throughout the preseason and training camp,” The Falcoholic’s Kevin Knight wrote.

Given the situation, the Falcons are likely to pursue a trade. Whoever they acquire will probably start until McGary returns, making now a good opportunity to shop around. One potential target is La’el Collins, who may be cut by the Dallas Cowboys.

“La’el Collins is a name to keep an eye on. If the Cowboys don’t keep him on the roster, he could be a serviceable guy for the time being at RT,” BroTalk of The Reporting Eligible Podcast posted.

Collins has been in the league for nine seasons and could serve as a veteran replacement for McGary. The move would be sensible, especially since Dallas appears to have no clear plan for him. The Falcons need a reliable filler, and Collins could be exactly that.
