5 Bears bubble players to watch vs. Chiefs

The Bears' preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs could be the last chance for these players to earn a roster spot.

The 2025 preseason comes to a close on Friday evening for the Chicago Bears as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Unlike most preseason finales, though, the starters for both teams will see action in their last game before the regular season begins.

Once again, all eyes will be on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who is coming off an impressive outing a week ago in their 38-0 dominant win over the Buffalo Bills. While Williams should see a series or two on Friday, the second and third-string players will see the bulk of the snaps, which is important for their future.

Decisions still need to be made over the next few days when the Bears trim the roster from 90 players to 53, which means quite a few individuals are making their final statements as to why they should make the team. Here are five bubble players to watch during Friday's game:

1. RB Ian Wheeler

Friday's preseason finale in Kansas City should mean a lot to running back Ian Wheeler. Not only is it his last chance to make a statement in his push to land on the initial 53-man roster, but it's also the site where he suffered his season-ending injury one year ago. Wheeler suffered a torn ACL and missed the entire 2024 season. It could be an emotional game for him, but one that he should perform well in after a strong preseason. With multiple injuries impacting the running back position, Wheeler has a legitimate shot to snag one of the final roster spots.

2. WR Tyler Scott

The Bears have the vast majority of their wide receiver room already locked in. Four spots are secured, leaving just one or two vacancies. Tyler Scott is fighting for one of those openings, and he has an uphill battle to secure it. The former fourth-round pick has been on the edge of the bench for the last year and has players such as Maurice Alexander and Jahdae Walker competing for a roster spot. Scott flashed during last week's preseason game, catching three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown, but it could be too little, too late.

3. OT Kiran Amegadjie

At the beginning of training camp, Kiran Amegadjie was in the mix to become the starting left tackle, competing with Braxton Jones and Ozzy Trapilo for the job. A lot has happened in the last four weeks. Jones is the front-runner to win the job, Trapilo is now working on the right side of the line with the backups, and Theo Benedet has caught the eye of the coaches to shoot up the depth chart. All of a sudden, Amaegadjie is working with the third-string line and could be in danger of being cut. The 2024 third-round pick should see extended snaps on Friday night, giving him another chance to prove he's deserving of remaining on the team.

4. DT Zacch Pickens

Another former third-round pick who could be in danger of losing a roster spot is defensive tackle Zacch Pickens. After two years in the league, Pickens has failed to establish himself as a productive defensive tackle. He's dealt with injuries and has been a healthy scratch during the regular season. Though his play has improved a bit during this year's camp and preseason, he faces an uphill battle to make the roster. This could be the last time we see Pickens in a Bears uniform.

5. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon

The Bears tried to shore up their defensive end room by signing Tanoh Kpassagnon during the first week of training camp. Kpassagnon, who played under defensive coordinator Dennis Allen with the New Orleans Saints, hasn't stood out as much as they would have hoped. With the injuries to players such as Dominique Robinson and Austin Booker, Kpassagnon has a chance to snag one of the final roster spots with a big game on Friday.
