Rivals has released its first ranking for the 2028 recruiting class, highlighting the top 100 players nationally at a very early stage in the scouting and ranking process.

These prospects are just beginning their sophomore season of high school, with some having extensive varsity experience so far and others not as much. The cycle will finish in February 2028 with 32 five-stars. The rankings will be updated on a regular schedule throughout the next two-plus years as there is more information to glean and after further exposure to the prospects. The ranking will later be expanded to a full Rivals300.

In this initial top 100, though, there are some usual powerhouse states that are frequently represented. Below is a look at the states featured heavily throughout the first round of 2028 rankings.

Florida — 20

The Sunshine State accounts for more than a fifth of the initial rankings, once again showcasing the talent that Florida continues to churn out. Of the 20 Floridians in the top 100, a whopping five are featured in the top 10.

Wide receiver Brysen Wright sits atop the rankings, with quarterback Champ Monds right behind at No. 2. Six Florida receivers are on the list, with Cameron Fuse and Eric McFarland inside the top 40 behind Wright. Cornerback A’mir Sears is No. 4 in the nation, while linebacker Deshawn Simmons and EDGE Asher Gioto check in at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. Three Florida running backs are also inside the top 100.

Georgia — 13

Ten different positions are represented among the Peach State prospects that cracked the top 100. Safety Giovanni Tuggle is the highest-ranked, checking in at No. 11 overall and No. 1 among the eight safeties ranked. Kevin Hartsfield and Zachary Belyeu are among the next group of touted Georgia running backs. Tight end Xevien Brinson and and safety Casey Barner are among the top 50, while Trace Hawkins is the lone Georgia quarterback in the group.

Texas — 11

Running back Sean Simon is the No. 15 player in the top 100 and one of two RBs on the list, alongside Micah Rhodes. At receiver, Damarion Mays and Brendyn Jackson are in the mix. The offensive line and the secondary are also featured as the Lone Star State remains a football factory. Safety James Foster III, offensive tackle R’Monie Edwards and cornerback Royce Bimage are other sophomore Texans making waves early.

California — 9

Many try to challenge California’s “big three” status when it comes to talent production, but the Golden State remains deep and a slew of blue-chippers are emerging once again in the 2028 cycle. Headlining the nine Californians in the top 100 is athlete Gaige Weddle, the son of former star NFL DB Eric Weddle. Gaige slots in at No. 3 overall and will flirt with five-star status over the next couple of years. Defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou is right behind at No. 5 overall. Jayden Wade is the No. 3 QB overall. Safety Jalen Flowers is also inside the top half of the rankings.

Illinois, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina — 4

Arizona, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania — 3

Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia — 2

Delaware, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, Washington — 1
