Shawn Porter likes what he’s seen out of Terence Crawford’s camp.
Shawn Porter spent some time talking to Fight Hype about some recent time he’s spent in Terence Crawford’s training camp as he prepares to take on Canelo Alvarez next month. Porter says he’s been seeing Crawford do all the right things and taking all the right steps to prepare himself for this fight at 168 lbs, and believes he’ll be well prepared by the time fight night comes around. Check out some excerpts from Porter below.
Porter on his glimpse into Crawford’s training camp
“My thing when I watch fighters, I want to see what you’re thinking. I have the ability to actually look into your mind and see how that thing is turning. (Crawford) sparred the other day I went over there and saw him and when he got out the ring we stood and talked for a while. He confirmed everything that I thought I was seeing. So he’s verging that peaking process, he’s getting stronger, still loving it which is the biggest part of it.
“When you have a level of passion for something that passion is commanding of you, he’s got all that. Went to his house afterwards…he’s comfortable. But for someone who’s been uncomfortable for a long time, he knows how to balance it. So I like everything I saw from Crawford’s camp.”
On Crawford’s sparring opponents
“Big guys, guys that were right around the six foot mark, guys that were right around that 200 lb mark. Nothing new for Terence Crawford. I want to remind people that getting into the ring with Canelo Alvarez, Terence is not going to see anything that he hasn’t seen before. No, he hasn’t seen this beast on fight night, but he has seen a version of this beast for a very, very long time.
“Another thing to note is people have said he’s a blown up 147 lb fighter. If you remember, he said it was hard for him to make 147 when he fought Errol Spence Jr…I didn’t realize he was really doing everything that’s needed to gain the weight properly. Most fighters don’t know how to gain weight and fit into a weight class properly, he’s done that. So it’s going to be a great fight.”
On Victor Conte’s involvement with Crawford’s move up in weight
“I was a SNAC fighter before Terence Crawford was a SNAC fighter. My dad does his due diligence all the time. We talked with multiple sources, made sure it was right, the way it needed to be. Victor Conte has always been A1 with me, A1 with us.”
