Jalon Daniels is entering his final year with a heavy dose of confidence. At media day, Daniels reflected on his last season, his bond with teammates, and what stands out about this year’s team.

Jim Zebrowski will take over as the offensive coordinator. This will be his first year calling plays but he has been Daniels position coach since he arrived in Lawrence with Lance Leipold in 2021.

One of the changes this season will be offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski moving to the booth to call plays. Daniels said the adjustment will benefit his coordinator’s ability to see the field.

“In the booth, he’s able to see the place. I mean, we’ll be able to see everything that’s going on in the field,” Daniels said. “You get a better view of the field from that angle rather than being on the sideline. And, you know, he’s been in the booth before and.

Daniels and Zebrowski already have a good rapport and are familiar with each other. He sees it as a positive with the move upstairs.

“I feel like our conversations and our communication with each other and us being able to know what we want to run on certain situations, certain downs, certain territories,” Daniels said. “And I think that’s kind of grown over the past five years that we’ve been with each other. So I think we’ll be great from there.”

Daniels sees growth in young players

Daniels reiterated that one of the main reasons he came back was to finish what he started at Kansas. He is entering his sixth season in the program and has been able to enjoy watching some the development of the younger players.

“Honestly, I feel great,” he said. “You know, I’m impressed with everything that we’ve been able to do over the offseason. Being able to see young guys such as Cole Ballard and Isaiah Marshall be able to do a lot in the spring, be able to take on certain leader roles, making sure that we’re able to get everything together, make sure we’re able to do walkthroughs, making sure that we’re just being able to stay one accord as an offense.

The work they put in over the summer will pay off and the young players are starting to show maturity.

“Being able to come back in after the spring, going into the summer, it was very easy coming in,” he said. “I feel like all of the guys that’s been new to the program have helped us a lot.”

Daniels feels good about the team

Daniels said they accomplished a lot over the summer and fall camp. He gave his thoughts on the team, the receivers and running backs, and much more. Watch everything Daniels had to say.
