Last night at Richmond Raceway, Tyler Reddick won a stage and looked to be in a position to compete for the win. That is, until he got spun out. NASCAR threw the caution after Reddick was spun on the track following contact from Ty Gibbs. Daniel Suárez was the one who got the whole thing started.
Suárez had better tires than Gibbs. He came up quickly on the 54 and needed to make passes to make the most of his tires. Perhaps the 99 was a little impatient. Gibbs went up the track and got into Reddick, who was zooming by on the outside.
Tyler Reddick never recovered from the spin. He was stuck multiple laps down and had a difficult second half of the race.
“Daniel just got impatient and knocked the 54 out of the way, and that’s what took us out,” Reddick said after the race, via Kelly Crandall of RACER.com. “Unfortunately, I had a feeling that was going to happen and I was just hoping more respect was going to be given. He went in there, and he moved the 54. I don’t know if he meant for it to wreck me, but nonetheless, I feel like time and time again, Daniel has done that type of thing.”
Tyler Reddick can ‘thank Daniel Suárez’ for P34 finish
The race definitely didn’t help Reddick’s points situation. If there is a new winner below the cutline and Alex Bowman outperforms Tyler Reddick in a big way at Daytona, it could mean the 45 misses out on the playoffs.
“It was pretty much worst-case scenario for us. When you have a Toyota Camry as fast as ours is, you need to score points,” Tyler Reddick continued. “The 48 scored a lot of points, and the 3 won. So, all in all, it was pretty much worst-case scenario. Yeah, we can thank Daniel Suárez for that.”
The 23XI Racing camp went from controlling the race with Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick out front to having all four cars finishing multiple laps down. It was a tough night out there for Michael Jordan’s organization.
Tyler Reddick wasn’t afraid to point the finger this week. Next week at Daytona, there will be plenty of finger-pointing. Drivers will make last-ditch efforts to claim a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs.
